Having just celebrated my 53rd birthday, it’s not as common for me to try something new. Yet, I find it’s always invigorating when I come across another way to see God’s awesome world. My new adventure this year was to try paddle boarding. I’ve always wanted to give it a go, so it brought a sense of excitement and a bit of nervousness when this opportunity presented itself. Good news! I didn’t kill myself. I didn’t even fall off and get soaked. I did, however, enjoy the calm stillness of Saginaw Bay in a way that made me feel almost as though I were walking on water.
This new perspective reminded me that God will ALWAYS have something new in store for us. He delights in delighting us. Most of all, I know that Jesus is eager to welcome us into the awesome new wonders of heaven. It will certainly be incredible.
If you find yourself getting bored with life or taking things for granted, step out and try something that stretches your comfort level a bit. Maybe go paddle boarding. Or, better yet, open the Word of the Lord and read about the awesome things He has in store for you…in this life and the next. Consider Paul’s words in 1 Cor. 2:9-10, “‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him’— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit.” Dig into the Word and let the Spirit guide you to something new and glorious!
Great message,Pastor! However, I don’t think I will try paddle boarding with my new knee. I too have just celebrated my birthday. 79th birthday. I think your idea of meditating on God’s word is the safest and most rewarding. I do this daily and it truly fills me with such peace and comfort to know that I am a forgiven child of God.
Happy Birthday, Pastor!!! Congrats on your new venture, brave guy!!!!
YOU are just a youngster!! LOL
I must add that my adventurous wife, Heather, also joined me in paddle boarding for the first time. She did an awesome job and is even more balanced (in every way) than me. I thank God for her and how she keeps me young and growing in the joy of the Lord!
